Switching sound output

Hey everyone!

Was about to start playing some music on Spotify when I realized sound wasn't coming through. I realized that I'm pretty sure my monitor (even when connected through VGA, which is what I'm using for it) shows to the system that the primary sound output device is the monitor. My monitor doesn't have speakers though. Even if it did, I want sound through my headphones. How do I fix this?

Re: Switching sound output

What are you using for playback? If you use pulseaudio, look at installing pavucontrol, as it will help you check and switch around where your audio plays to individually.

If you are using ALSA only read: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ad … sound_card

Re: Switching sound output

I don't understand what you mean @V1del. I'm using the Spotify web portal. I don't know what pulseaudio or ALSA is. I tried downloading the Spotify app through the AUR but theres some error with the PGP keys.

Re: Switching sound output

ALSA is the kernels audio driver layer, pulseaudio is an audio daemon to help with mixing multiple applications.

What's your output for

fuser -v /dev/snd/*
aplay -lL #Needs alsa-utils

during attempted playback.
