Re: xfdesktop seems to be broken

Same problem with three xfce distro.
With some conky and impossible to find transparency, in some I solved as described in the posts above, but other conky as weaterhourly is impossible to find transparency.
I will downgrade.
Thank

Re: xfdesktop seems to be broken

I got bit by this problem too and had to rollback xfdesktop to 4.12.4-2. Put IgnorePkg = xfdesktop in pacman.conf too. I know 4 others that have the same problem with our conkys and compositing.

Working fine as is. 4.13.3-1 is definitely not ready.

Re: xfdesktop seems to be broken

Yes, that's what I did.
I wanted to point out that I have Greybird as a theme.
thank you

Re: xfdesktop seems to be broken

Do the configuration settings from post #7 above help? Can you identify and share the conky configs that aren't working?

with the new version of xdesktop it comes out like this

https://postimg.cc/rd8cGKVg
-------------------------------------------------

if I change the conky settings, always with the new version of xdesktop
the conky comes out as from the photo of the previous post

https://postimg.cc/ppsZybh5

where there is also the conky setting
-------------------------------------------------
edit

if I downgrade xfdesktop with the conky original configurations, everything returns as before.

Re: xfdesktop seems to be broken

This conky file appears to reference some supporting functions/images. Where is 1_accuweather available from?

If I:

  • replace all the content in the "conky.text" section with random text

  • change "own_window_type = 'override'," to read: "own_window_type = 'desktop',"

  • uncomment "own_window_argb_visual = true,"

...transparency works fine here for me.

Most probably from Conkywx.

I'm not changing a thing with my conkys when they work perfectly with xfdesktop 4.12.4-2.

I've got probably the best conky package there is installed:

$ pacman -Q conky
conky-cairo 1.11.3-1

It is in the AUR and produced by the same person that created Conkywx. I'm one of the testers. It just updated to that version today.

It supports Audacious, Nvidia, etc. Conkywx monitors when you have packages that are available and displays the number as well as the number of packages that are on hold.
That is if you have that conky running, it's called conkywx-weather-rings-systemrc and the template, etc. comes with Conkywx.

EDIT: Not Conkywx.

accuweather is the script that takes the weather and weather images.
The script comes from bunsenlabs.
in fact, this is also true for me:

edit
in essence the conky that are transparent with the old xfdesktop, lose transparency with the new xfdesktop

As soon as I'm on the distro I try the settings, but I think I've already tried them

Re: xfdesktop seems to be broken

Conkys working just fine here with xfdesktop 4.12.4-2.

This is Conkywx: https://imgur.com/xBN2iu7
I've just got 7 conkys but, I've had 12 with not even close to as much overhead as you would expect.

What is different is these conkys scroll: the music right to left and the news, seismic activity, etc. down but, it's all just a parameter for which way it scrolls.
A picture doesn't quite do it justice. A movie would be better.

Arch Linux Custom Grub is exactly the same with the exception of the font colors and background being in /etc/default/grub.

Re: xfdesktop seems to be broken

@Cavsfan
we know conkywx used it up to version 5 if I remember correctly, then the coordinates of the weather changed and the myopese didn't see it anymore.

Re: xfdesktop seems to be broken

@toz I had your conky settings on the hour, but I tried again now and it still isn't transparent.
Here is the indicted conky

conky.config = {
-- Create own window instead of using desktop (required in nautilus)
	 own_window = override,
        -- own_window_class = Conky,
         own_window = true,
	 own_window_type = 'override',
	 own_window_transparent = true,
	 own_window_hints = 'undecorated,below,skip_taskbar,skip_pager',
        -- own_window_argb_visual = true,
        -- own_window_argb_value = 192,

-- Use double buffering (reduces flicker, may not work for everyone)
	double_buffer = true,

-- fiddle with window
	use_spacer = 'right',
	use_xft = true,

-- Update interval in seconds
	update_interval = 3,

-- Minimum size of text area
	minimum_width = 515, minimum_height = 300,
	maximum_width = 1030,

	override_utf8_locale = true,

-- Draw shades?
	draw_shades = true,

-- Text stuff
	draw_outline = true,-- amplifies text if yes
	draw_borders = false,
--font freesans -12
	font = 'Arial:size=9',
	uppercase = false,-- set to yes if you want all text to be in uppercase

-- Stippled borders?
	stippled_borders = 3,

-- border margins
	border_inner_margin = 9,

-- border width
	border_width = 10,

-- Default colors and also border colors, grey90 == #e5e5e5
	default_color = '#cbcbcb',

	own_window_colour = 'brown',

-- Text alignment, other possible values are commented
--alignment top_left
	alignment = 'top_right',
--alignment bottom_left
--alignment bottom_right

-- Gap between borders of screen and text
	gap_x = 110,
	gap_y = 30,

	imlib_cache_size = 0,
	text_buffer_size = 4096,

-- stuff after 'TEXT' will be formatted on screen
};

conky.text = [[
${font Arial:size=11}${color ffe595}HOURLY WEATHER ${font}${hr 2}${texeci 600 bash $HOME/1_accuweather/1_accuweather -h2016}

${execpi 600 sed -n '1,28p' $HOME/1_accuweather/altogether16_2016}

]];

Here the forum from where I got the conky

        -- own_window_argb_visual = true,
        -- own_window_argb_value = 192,

@newbie1962, can you:

  1. delete the "own_window = override"  line (the first one right after "--Create own window..."

  2. change the "own_window_type" to "desktop"

  3. uncomment (remove the preceeding --) from the "own_window_arbg_visual" line?

So that the first part looks like this:

conky.config = {
-- Create own window instead of using desktop (required in nautilus)
        -- own_window_class = Conky,
         own_window = true,
	 own_window_type = 'desktop',
	 own_window_transparent = true,
	 own_window_hints = 'undecorated,below,skip_taskbar,skip_pager',
         own_window_argb_visual = true,
        -- own_window_argb_value = 192,

This combination works on my system.

After you re-install xfdesktop 4.13, make sure you restart it:

Re: xfdesktop seems to be broken

I followed the instructions below see photo:
https://postimg.cc/jwGjXvwb

after reboot here is the photo of the conky
https://postimg.cc/JySmV013

------------------------------------------

If these two conky function with the default settings with the old xfdesktop?
I explain why I have to change the conky settings with the new version of xfdesktop?

As I said in my first place, it will be thema's fault.boh

Re: xfdesktop seems to be broken

Are you using the xfwm compositor? Is it enabled?

What video card and driver are you using?

Re: xfdesktop seems to be broken

along with the conky transparency issue (which i think is the least of its issues) with xfdesktop-4.13.3-1 is I have a top and bottom panel which are set to auto hide and when it slides back down its still left on the screen as if it doesnt redraw the desktop again properly? reverting to xfdesktop-4.12.4-2 obviously resolves the issue for me.

this occurs on my laptop which is using the intel graphics and not my desktop which is using nvidia binary

Re: xfdesktop seems to be broken

It's probably best to create upstream bug reports for these issues so that they can be looked at by the developers.

Yes, I believe it is true xfwm4 but I have to check.
I have intel-nvidia graphics card and use intel-nouveau drivers.
thank

Conkywx went to version 6, then 7 and instead of 8 it went to 181207, which is the released version.

I'm testing 190312 and Param, the programmer, gave it multiple sources Wunderground, Weather.com, MSN weather, Accuweather and Dark Sky. Plus he is constantly looking for more sources that anyone in the world can use.
That is a requirement - everyone anywhere must be able to get their local weather.
But, like you say, the website would change something and it all goes awry.

So, then you have to manually change the source in the conf file and all is good.

He is currently working on automating this process: when the weather source being used cannot provide the weather it will switch to another source that can. All behind the scenes requiring no user intervention.

Plus he has made these conkys scroll, something I've never seen before.

Re: xfdesktop seems to be broken

The best solution to this is to downgrade xfdesktop to 4.12.4-2 and ignore that package.

I'm using Compiz, Emerald, Fusion Icon, conkys, anything and everything works perfectly, without changing anything.

I do agree if there is not a bug on this there needs to be.

Re: xfdesktop seems to be broken

I finally isolated the problem here, and whilst I can't say it's true for everyone, figured I'd post.

I used thunar-extended from AUR rather than Thunar bare. Thunar extended is still built on .16 rather than .18. Removed it and installed stock Thunar, and everything works just fine again with the latest xfdesktop.
