VirtualBox UEFI shell startup delay

I'm using ArchLinux guest within VirtualBox with EFI enabled. I'm not using a boot manager, but instead have startup.nsh with a bootloading line.

Is there any way to change the UEFI shell delay (where it says "Press ESC in 5 seconds to skip startup.nsh")?

From the Arch Wiki page for EFISTUB, at the bottom of the page, it points out that EFI variables in VirtualBox are not retained between cold boots.

However, the VirtualBox documentation indicates that some EFI data can be set via the setextradata command. Combined with the info on UEFI shell invocation options in section 3.2 of the shell spec, I'm hoping these can be combined somehow to use setextradata to pass in something that affects the shell invocation options... but I haven't been able to get anything to work.
