[SOLVED] Network tools (wpa_supplicant) not included in base packages

I successfully installed Arch on my Dell Latitude E6410 just now only to find that none of the networking packages (wpa_supplicant etc) were installed.

Are they not included in the base packages? I need to know because if they are, then something went wrong with my install and I need to redo it.

If they aren't, why not?

Thanks.

Some networking packages are, but not wpa_supplicant. Like most of Arch, you install what you need.

Off the top of my head, dhcpcd, iputils, iproute2, and inetutils. There are probably others, too.

Re: [SOLVED] Network tools (wpa_supplicant) not included in base packages

See https://www.archlinux.org/groups/x86_64/base/ for what is included in the group 'base'. (and https://www.archlinux.org/groups/x86_64/base-devel/ for 'base-devel' if you decided to also install those)
What's available by default if you didn't install anything else is mostly for wired connections; e.g. dhcpcd and systemd-networkd

EDIT: ninja'd by Scimmia with a more extensive list while I was putting in URLs xD

EDIT2: To clarify, while you can use the mentioned tooling just fine on wireless interfaces as well (it's just network tooling in general), you'd still need additional tooling to set up wireless connections to establish the connection to an access point.
This could even be something other than wpa_supplicant, such as iwd.

Got it. Thanks.

I'm new here. Do I put the [SOLVED] in the title?

If you consider the thread [SOLVED] yes please edit the title of your first post.

One more thing: what packages do I need in order to use the procedure described in Connecting_with_wpa_cli?

This is covered explicitly just a few lines earlier in that exact same page:

Re: [SOLVED] Network tools (wpa_supplicant) not included in base packages

netctl is part of base, and wpa_supplicant, and dhcpcd are both optional dependencies for netctl, so if you pay attention during install, you're told by pacman to install those packages for wireless networking and dhcp support.

also, if you follow the installation guide on the wiki, it directs you to set up your connection on a sub page, where you're explained all this information.
