Why did you choose lilo instead of grub?
Is it possible not to install it ?
Thanks for this great job !

Why did you choose lilo instead of grub?
Not to confuse a newbie, wondering what to use. Also LILO is more stable and simpler to manage. Same with the filesystem, only one option (ext3).
Once the CD is installed in HDD, its Arch Linux where user can do all the changes and install new packages. Main idea is to have a ready made workable system.

but it looks that with my (2 disks Sata and ide) and two cd roms, I can't install package:
<quote>
Can't mount disc /dev/sda

that's correct since it is one of my hard drive :?

I noticed the problem with Sata.

I have to fix it in next version.

There is a new upgrade. Automatically configures fstab and lilo.conf (same a Arch installer CD does). User can select
different filesystems. The sata is also fixed (I was not able to test but should work). All packages upgraded as per 15 August.

Hi rasat
I appreciate your effort. However I have some minor during the Office-KDE Arch install, may be due to my radeon 9250 card (I have allready installed an arch with xfce4 from the scratch and that wasn't that difficult. According to your instruction LOCALE="C" is the default. Finally I disabled this setting and replaced it by the relevant local swiss setting. Your preset was very confusing to me. Fortunately I know the standard english keyboard a little bit, so I could change the rc.conf manually. Would you add a comment for the internaltional users in rc.conf regarding the LOCAL-settings, please? And a comment regarding the mouse dev setting /dev/mice would be helpful for a beginner too (allthough it's mentioned in the Arch Linux 0.7.2 (Gimmick) Installation Guide.
The command local -a gives me an error: local cannot set LC_CTYPE/LC_messages to default locale. According to the KDE Arch-wikkie I should change the rc.conf: "Please add 'dbus' 'hal' to rc.conf daemon's list". Is this necessary with your installation? I simply did it.
I will open another thread for the different error messages I get, might be due to my radeon card or my missing linux-knowledge. However I can now run KDE after two hours ;-)
When I couldn't find the keys on my swiss-german keyboard, I wondered why I didn't instlall Kanotix. However I must admit, that I have only passed a basic Unix-course and that I don't have too much linux-experience (yesterday I got into the details of chgrp and chown-syntax).
Nevertheless thanks for your efforts, but for a real arch-beginner it's tough. I'm glad, I have a seond computer, which I can use to read through the arch-wikis side-by-side.
Best regards

Thanks for the feedback.
Arch's locale default is: LOCALE="en_US.utf8" but I changed it when having error running scripts:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=23505
In next version, I will change it back to Arch default. Also add few of your suggestions.
When localizing Arch there is no toolkit to make it easy for the user. Requires to do it manually (rc.conf). In gParted live CD, which is included in the CD, has a simple toolkit to customize the keyboard. I will add in the setup script.

There is a new update in Arch Linux Office Install CD. Packages are ungraded to 17 September updates, in setup includes an additional script to select keyboard map, and configure "/etc/locale.gen".

We'd glad to see it for 0.8 version and also a huge dvd.iso which inludes lots of window managers and packages in the repo and the convenience of the office cd installation like: THIS.
Thanks...

ALOI for 0.8, we have to wait for the final Arch Linux 0.8 setup script. As per the latest version (0.7.2.6), I am trying to keep the installation as original as possible. The difference only the packages are pre-selected and added with few pre-configured system files.

@rasat
Thnx for your work. I tried you cd and I wish you could improve some little things. I think that this cd could be aimed at newbies very well. What should be added IMHO could be this :
- Make installer a little more friendly (too many steps for a newbie)
- After install make a NTFS or FAT drive already accessible
- NVIDIA and ATI drivers
- a couple of games like Frozen Bubble
- a voip client
- a basic Arch control center (I know I overpassed the limit )
Regards and keep your work still
P.s. You made me reinstall Arch after some months

Wow!!! I actually managed to achieve this following your guide!! Wonderful stuff!!! Thanks a lot!!!
Just a question though : I'm planning to use this method to 'back up' my existing arch installation. But, the total size of the three packages seem to over weigh the 700mb limit for burning onto a CD ! So, is there any way I can squeeze them more to fit on a CD? (Forgive me if this was a silly question!
)

If you have a DVD burner, you can have upto 4Gb.
What I have in mind, is an alternative option to have the three packages in an external device (hd or usb stick).

Good idea! Does another (or more) CD(s) count as "external drive"?
