Pinned application not launching

Sorry if this is obvious to anyone here, but I just created a new application .desktop file to launch an application. However, after launching the application from the application menu, pinning, and closing it, the pinned icon will not launch the application again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What application menu are you referring to?

Sorry it would be from the task manager. Also, I am running KDE plasma if that helps.
