wine-staging can't find wine-mono installer.

Hi,

First time posting here, forgive my ignorance.

I'm trying to install mono automatically when wine lunches first time and creates the default prefix ar ~/.wine. But It's not happening.

I've installed wine-staging and wine-mono from the official repository.

the msi installer is the the /usr/share/wine/mono folder.

But wine still says wine-mono installer couldn't be found and offers to download it.

FYI. I was also having the same issue about wine-gecko but after installing wine_gecko it's been fixed.

No dice on the mono though.

Any help will be appreciated.

Best regards.

Does normal wine package see the mono install ?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

(A works at time B)  && (time C > time B ) ≠  (A works at time C)

Re: wine-staging can't find wine-mono installer.

an alternative is installing MS .NET framework.
in winecfg, set OS to Windows XP, then in dll override set mscoree.dll to native.
run .net framework 4.0 installer and install it.
then if you want .NET 4.5 or higher set OS to Windows 7.
with .NET instead of mono you can run WPF apps in wine. I tried ILSpy.

I've done some further investigation and it seems that wine-staging 4.6-1 is looking for "wine-mono-4.8.1.msi" but I have wine-mono-4.8.2-1 installed from repo. That may be the problem.

Why's wine hardcoded to look for a specific version instead of available one? Is it an upstream bug?

Re: wine-staging can't find wine-mono installer.

Neither wine nor wine-staging depend on wine-mono, so it's not pacman.

This does sound like a upstream bug in winecfg used by wine-staging.
