Onboard Sound Device not being detected as output

Hello,

I am having a weird sound issue on my desktop. I have an onboard soundcard -- Intel Corporation Cannon Lake PCH cAVS (rev 10) -- and a sound card in my GPU -- NVIDIA Corporation GP107GL High Definition Audio Controller [10de:0fb9] (rev a1). For some reason, ALSA is only detecting the gpu sound card, and I can't for the life of me figure out why.

I saw something on another post to run these for debugging:

wget -O alsa-info.sh http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh
bash alsa-info.sh --upload

so I did, and here's the info, but I don't even know how to make any sense of it since I'm not super familiar with ALSA.

It's worth noting that Windows doesn't detect it either, but I'm fine not fixing it there since I only play games with it and I always use my bluetooth headphones. tongue And I can't just use the gpu sound because it's only through HDMI and my monitors have no speakers!

Thanks in advance!! smile

Re: Onboard Sound Device not being detected as output

Edit : alsa-info.sh is included in alsa-utils , just install that packge.

1f.3 is your onboard card.

Is the nvidia card set as primary videocard or the intel card ?
Is your uefi firmware uptodate ?
Do you have early microcode updates configured ?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Then perhaps it is broken.

The aplay output in the link only shows the GPU soundcard.

Does the card show up if you load a "live" distribtution?

The Nvidia card is set as primary, and yes to the last two

Re: Onboard Sound Device not being detected as output

post lspci -k please.

This appears to be an intel / nvidia hybrid graphics system.
How did you setup this / which wiki page did you follow ?

I followed the installation guide at wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Installation_guide for installing it.
If you mean setting up sound stuff, I went through the stuff on the ALSA page (wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Advanced_Linux_Sound_Architecture) and the PulseAudio page (wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PulseAudio).

Re: Onboard Sound Device not being detected as output

I was referring to the graphics setup, but the issue may be on a lower level.

Does onboard sound work if the intel igp card (temporarily) is set as primary card ?
