LXD won't init

Hey Y'all,

I am trying to set up lxd and lxc on Arch and when starting the service, it errors.  I have been following https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/LXD

After the first attempts, I saw this in the journal:

Apr 29 15:07:38 sterling systemd[1]: Started REST API, command line tool and OpenStack integration plugin for LXC..
Apr 29 15:07:38 sterling lxd[4281]: t=2019-04-29T15:07:38-0400 lvl=warn msg="No available uid/gid map could be found"
Apr 29 15:07:38 sterling lxd[4281]: t=2019-04-29T15:07:38-0400 lvl=warn msg="Only privileged containers will be able to run"
Apr 29 15:07:38 sterling lxd[4281]: t=2019-04-29T15:07:38-0400 lvl=warn msg="AppArmor support has been disabled because of lack of kernel support"
Apr 29 15:07:38 sterling lxd[4281]: t=2019-04-29T15:07:38-0400 lvl=eror msg="Failed to start the daemon: Failed to prepare loop device for \"/var/lib/lxd/disks/default.img\": no such file or directory"
Apr 29 15:07:38 sterling lxd[4281]: Error: Failed to prepare loop device for "/var/lib/lxd/disks/default.img": no such file or directory
Apr 29 15:07:38 sterling systemd[1]: lxd.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE
Apr 29 15:07:38 sterling systemd[1]: lxd.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.

I figured I'd fix it's lil red wagon with

touch /var/lib/lxd/disks/default.img

but next error I see is:

Apr 29 14:49:57 sterling systemd[1]: Started REST API, command line tool and OpenStack integration plugin for LXC..
Apr 29 14:49:57 sterling lxd[3729]: t=2019-04-29T14:49:57-0400 lvl=warn msg="No available uid/gid map could be found"
Apr 29 14:49:57 sterling lxd[3729]: t=2019-04-29T14:49:57-0400 lvl=warn msg="Only privileged containers will be able to run"
Apr 29 14:49:57 sterling lxd[3729]: t=2019-04-29T14:49:57-0400 lvl=warn msg="AppArmor support has been disabled because of lack of kernel support"
Apr 29 14:50:08 sterling lxd[3729]: t=2019-04-29T14:50:08-0400 lvl=eror msg="Failed to start the daemon: could not activate volume group \"default\": Volume group \"default\" not found\n Cannot process volume group default\n"
Apr 29 14:50:08 sterling lxd[3729]: Error: could not activate volume group "default": Volume group "default" not found
Apr 29 14:50:08 sterling lxd[3729]: Cannot process volume group default
Apr 29 14:50:08 sterling systemd[1]: lxd.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE
Apr 29 14:50:08 sterling systemd[1]: lxd.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.

I am using LVM, but don't have a vg named 'default', nor can I find where to change this option to 'lxd init'.  I also would prefer using 'dir' instead of the vg, which I read is the default, but it seems not so in the AUR implementation.

I'd appreciate any advise offered!

Re: LXD won't init

Add yourself to the group 'lxd' and start 'lxd init'. Do not create any files manually.

Re: LXD won't init

Thanks for the reply, Maniaxx.  My user is a member of lxd and also, I ran it with 'sudo'.  My bad for not including those details.

I was able to get lxc running without lxd though, so all is well here in container land.
