I've two external hard drives laying around unencrypted with data on them. I use dm_crypt for my laptop which I'm pleased with. What I'd like is to have a similar level of protection for these hard drives. I use them just like any other external drive: via USB when I want to move data around. So I don't need to boot from these drives at all. What I'm picturing is plugging these drives in and having a password for each drive or a file on my laptop which I use to unlock the drives. Is this possible? Which wiki article should I be reading?
I was also thinking about combining these drives through LVM so that I could combine their capacities but have them register as a single drive by my laptop. Is this also possible?

Ah... maybe the one specifically on disk encryption. Did you make any effort to search?

Do I first need to LUKS for the whole drives (block device level encryption) then once opened LVM?
