[SOLVED] SDDM fails to start with autogenerated nvidia-xconfig

Hello!

I have replaced Nouveau with Nvidia driver recently. After installation I generated xconfig and filled out proper resolution using nvidia-settings (nvidia-xconfig creates xorg.conf and nvidia-settings creates /xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf)
After that my system loads SDDM infinitely. If I remove both xorg.conf and 20-nvidia.conf it will load normally into SDDM.

I am using zen-5.0.13 kernel and Bumblebee for intel/nvidia support if that helps in any way. I will be happy to provide any additional details.

I am not very proficient with gpu drivers, so I may be missing something extremely obvious here.

Thank you for your time!

Re: [SOLVED] SDDM fails to start with autogenerated nvidia-xconfig

As expected, nvidia-xconfig doesn't ever generate the correct configurations on optimus systems.

If you are actually wanting to use bumblebee, granted you've followed the bumblebee wiki article, everything works as expected, if your actual intention is to run on the nvidia card for better performance you should read through the options outlined in: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA_Optimus

Thank you! I switched to gpu-only for now. Ideally I wanted to use something balanced for longer battery life, but usable GPU is a priority. I guess this makes this topic solved

Please mark it as such by editing the title in your first post and prepending it with [solved] https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … ow_to_post
