No space left on device (trying to copy data onto microSD)

Hi, I was trying to copy about 12 GB of files onto a 60GB microSD card, which I had completely wiped before using

sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb

and then formatted as exfat. This is the output of

lsblk -f
NAME FSTYPE LABEL UUID FSAVAIL FSUSE% MOUNTPOINT
sda
├─sda1 ext2 e2d3ce8e-ad27-4772-a0e2-44d270fb8e21 64.5M 43% /boot
├─sda2 swap 46e04118-7b96-4ed9-87f3-207569886228 [SWAP]
└─sda3 ext4 c0fb50b9-5156-48ce-ba25-87ccf0bd7bbd 798.8G 7% /
sdb exfat 1C19-8248 0 100% /run/media/oxide/1FE7-62DD
sr0

This is the output of

df -h

dev 1.7G 0 1.7G 0% /dev

Re: No space left on device (trying to copy data onto microSD)

I guess this is the part where you should *really* add some details on what you did.

Are there any (hidden?) files on that drive?
How did you mount it? (Options, output of  "mount"?)
You *did* use https://www.archlinux.org/packages/comm … fat-utils/ and did not just flag the disk type and then formatted it vfat, did you?

I did use exfat-utils to format it. I mounted it using

mount /dev/sdb/ /mnt

so no extra flags to the command at all.
I did use F3 to check it for errors, but then deleted all the files that it creates. There aren't any hidden files on it.

Re: No space left on device (trying to copy data onto microSD)

Why are you formatting the block device directly rather than partitioning it first?

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan
