I had an app from the AUR which I think used its own openssl. I've removed that app but it seems to have left something behind because now I'm not able to install Perl modules that use openssl. How do I clean this up so I have only one version?
# sudo cpan IO::Socket::SSL

What app did you remove and how did you remove it?

It was 'asf' from the AUR - I did:
# sudo pacman -R asf
# sudo pacman -R openssl-1.0
# openssl version
OpenSSL 1.1.1b 26 Feb 2019Offline
Your probably looking at a dependency that was not removed.
There's probably a better way to resolve this but you could re-install those two packages and then use the proper pacman command to remove everything.

I tried that, but I'm still getting the cpan error from my original post ![]()
# sudo pacman -Rs asf

Mind you, I'm assuming that this is something to do with the asf install but it may be something totally unrelated.

With openssl-1.0 installed is the issue still present?
Offline
Yes it is - if I just remove asf but leave openssl-1.0 I still get the error.

Please try removing openssl-1.0 then rebuild Net::SSLeay which should then use openssl 1.1 as provided by the openssl package.

Bingo! Thank you!

The error may come back after an update of openssl package update due to
if (my $compiled = eval {
require Net::SSLeay;
Net::SSLeay::OPENSSL_VERSION_NUMBER()
}) {
# don't support too old OpenSSL versions anymore, only causes trouble
die sprintf(
"minimal required version for OpenSSL is 0.9.8, but your Net::SSLeay reports 0x%08x",
$compiled) if $compiled < 0x00908000;
my $linked = Net::SSLeay::SSLeay();
if (($compiled ^ $linked) >= 0x00001000) {
die sprintf("API-different OpenSSL versions compiled in (0x%08x) vs linked (0x%08x)",
$compiled,$linked);
}
}Even if openssl is compatible according to the openssl authors the IO::Socket::SSL author requires a rebuild of Net::SSLeay

OK thanks for the heads-up, I'll remember to do that if anything breaks.
