Just installed polybar but the wlan module is not showing for some reason
My config file:
[module/wireless]
type = internal/network
interface = wlp3s0f0u8
interval = 3.0
format-connected = <ramp-signal> <label-connected>
format-connected-underline = #9f78e1
label-connected = %essid%
;format-disconnected =
format-disconnected = <label-disconnected>
;format-disconnected-underline = ${self.format-connected-underline}
;label-disconnected = %ifname% disconnected
;label-disconnected-foreground = ${colors.foreground-alt}
ramp-signal-0 = 1
ramp-signal-1 = 2
ramp-signal-2 = 3
ramp-signal-3 = 4
ramp-signal-4 = 5
ramp-signal-foreground = ${colors.foreground-alt}When I launch it from the terminl I get this:
warn: Termination signal received, shutting down...
warn: module/i3: Attempting to reconnect socket (reason: Unexpected EOF while reading header)
Bars launched...
warn: No monitor specified, using "HDMI-1"
warn: pulseaudio: using default sink alsa_output.usb-SOMIC_Industrial_Co._Ltd_G941_000000000000-00.analog-stereoOffline
There are two reasons that come to mind why it isn't displaying. Either you have not added the wireless module to one of the module lists or you are not connected to a wireless network.

I added it and wireless is working. If I use nm-applet it displays fine

Could you add the
-l infoargument when you launch it from the command line and post that output.
Offline
it has the same output
Offline
What command are you using to run polybar with
-l info?
If you properly add that flag, it will give you a different output.

Hmm, so the module is definitely running. My guess is that the wifi interface wlp3s0f0u8 is disconnected and your wireless adapter has a different name.
What is the output of
ip linkOffline
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000

Does your computer have a physical ethernet port?
Try setting
interface = enp30s0and see if this works.
If this doesn't work, revert those changes and uncomment the line containing
;label-disconnected = %ifname% disconnectedand then run polybar again. This should then explicitly tell you whether or not polybar thinks your interface is disconnected.
Offline
Still nothing even with enp30s0.
Using the other method, it says that wlp3s0f0u8 is disconnected. ![]()

Alright so polybar (wrongly) thinks it's disconnected. Since you didn't get a "Failed to query interface" warning, I am suspecting that the file
/sys/class/net/wlp3s0f0u8/operstate, contains "unknown". If this is the case, try to set
unknown-as-up = truein your network module.
If this isn't the case, I need the following information from you:
- The output of
polybar -vvv- The contents of
/sys/class/net/wlp3s0f0u8/wirelessOffline
The operstate file contains "up"
Here is the first output:
polybar 3.3.0-92-g7724c4dc

Strange. The only other reason why polybar would think it is disconnected is because it detects the ESSID being an empty string. Could you run
iw dev wlp3s0f0u8 info.
Offline
I get:
command failed: No such device (-19)Offline
Is this like a real old piece of hardware? Does
iwconfigwork for you? It seems that your driver doesn't support libnl, which is supposed to replace wireless_tools. If iwconfig works for you, you may be able to get it working by recompiling polybar and adding
-DWITH_LIBNL=OFFto the first cmake call (line 41 in the polybar-git PKGBUILD).
