I installed MPD and Ncmpcpp according to this tutorial.
http://archerbase.wordpress.com/2009/12 … rch-linux/
When I run ncmpcpp however, it displays nothing and does not show any music. It displays 'no database' in the bottom left corner.
When I type @ to bring up MPD server info it says Last DB update: 01/01/1970 10:00:00 AM
Here is my mpd.conf file stored at /home/badmin/.mpd/mpd.conf
music_directory "~/Music"
playlist_directory "~/.mpd/playlists"
db_file "~/.mpd/mpd.db"
log_file "~/.mpd/mpd.log"
pid_file "~/.mpd/mpd.pid"
state_file "~/.mpd/mpdstate"
user "badmin"
#
audio_output {
type "alsa"
name "My ALSA Device"
}My ncmpcpp config is /home/badmin/.ncmpcpp/config
mpd_music_dir = "/home/badmin/Music" Are there any other configuration files I need to worry about?
How do I get ncmpcpp to show my music?

Try changing your mpd.conf to read:
music_directory "/home/badmin/Music"Offline
Changed "~/Music" to "/home/badmin/Music" but still will not find music.
In some panels of ncmpcpp it will say "Database update finished!" but others wills say "no database".
MPD server info still says Songs in Database: 0
and Last DB update: 01/01/1970 10:00:00 AM

I believe the path for the mpd config has changed:
MPD searches for a config file in $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/mpd/mpd.conf
then ~/.mpdconf then /etc/mpd.conf or uses CONF_FILE.
| alias CUTF='LANG=en_XX.UTF-8@POSIX ' | alias ENGLISH='LANG=C.UTF-8 ' |

I saw that on the wiki. I'm not too sure what that means though. Where do I need to move my config file?

So I copied everything that was in my ~/.mpd/ to my .config/mpd/ it is still exactly the same though.

So I installed ncmpcpp-git from the AUR fixed everything although at the moment I have config files at ~/.mpd and ~/.conf/mpd and am not sure where it's reading it from.

I have config files at ~/.mpd and ~/.conf/mpd and am not sure where it's reading it from.
You can have one in either place.
According to the man page,
MPD searches for a config file in $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/mpd/mpd.conf then
~/.mpdconf then /etc/mpd.conf or uses CONF_FILE.
So, if you have a config in .config/mpd/mpd.conf, it's reading that one.

Setting $XDG_CONFIG_HOME explicitly helped me.
