[SOLVED] Alsa (via pulse): Cannot enable Auto-Mute again

Hi,

following question:

A few days ago I deactivated the Auto-Mute Mode (loudspeakers mute as soon as headphones are plugged into the front jack) via amixer, because I wanted to operate two output devices simultaneously.

$ amixer -c 0 sset 'Auto-Mute Mode' Disabled
Simple mixer control 'Auto-Mute Mode',0
  Capabilities: enum
  Items: 'Disabled' 'Speaker Only' 'Line Out+Speaker'
  Item0: 'Disabled'
$

Now I got an adapter, which allows both output devices to be connected to the PC via the rear loudspeaker connection.

I wanted to activate Auto-Mute again:

$
amixer -c 0 sset 'Auto-Mute Mode' Enabled
amixer: Invalid command!
$

Auto-Mute is of course still on 'Disabled'!

$ amixer -c 0 sget 'Auto-Mute Mode'
Simple mixer control 'Auto-Mute Mode',0
  Capabilities: enum
  Items: 'Disabled' 'Speaker Only' 'Line Out+Speaker'
  Item0: 'Disabled'
$

What's broken? Bug in amixer?

I changed it manually in /etc/asound.state. Does anyone know this behavior?

EDIT:

Mhh, even after changing and restarting Alsa everything stays the same.

$ grep -A 8 Mute /etc/asound.state
        name 'Auto-Mute Mode'
        value Enabled
        comment {
            access 'read write'
            type ENUMERATED
            count 1
            item.0 Enabled
            item.1 Enabled
        }
$

$ amixer -c 0 sget 'Auto-Mute Mode'
Simple mixer control 'Auto-Mute Mode',0
  Capabilities: enum
  Items: 'Disabled' 'Speaker Only' 'Line Out+Speaker'
  Item0: 'Disabled'
$

Can someone tell me how to get back to working Auto-Mute? smile

Thanks!s

Alex

Re: [SOLVED] Alsa (via pulse): Cannot enable Auto-Mute again

Solvation: I have to do this in alsamixer.
F6 to change soundcard and then enable Auto-Mute at Line-Out.

But why amixer doesn't?

Re: [SOLVED] Alsa (via pulse): Cannot enable Auto-Mute again

Amixer would work as well, the added soundcard is probably likely occupying index 0 and you'd have to adjust to what your card was at originally. recheck the valid index in aplay -l

Re: [SOLVED] Alsa (via pulse): Cannot enable Auto-Mute again

Thanks for your answer.

$ aplay -l
**** Liste der Hardware-Geräte (PLAYBACK) ****
Karte 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], Gerät 0: ALC221 Analog [ALC221 Analog]
  Sub-Geräte: 1/1
  Sub-Gerät #0: subdevice #0

Karte 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], Gerät 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Sub-Geräte: 1/1
  Sub-Gerät #0: subdevice #0
Karte 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], Gerät 7: HDMI 1 [HDMI 1]
  Sub-Geräte: 1/1
  Sub-Gerät #0: subdevice #0

So "0" should be the relevant sound card!

(I added no sound card, I only added a pair of speakers to the jacks of the Intel as "pseudo surround". wink )

EDIT and SOLVED:

I have to write (e.g.):

$ amixer -c 0 sset 'Auto-Mute Mode' 'Line Out+Speaker'
Simple mixer control 'Auto-Mute Mode',0
  Capabilities: enum
  Items: 'Disabled' 'Speaker Only' 'Line Out+Speaker'
  Item0: 'Line Out+Speaker'

instead of "Enabled" !!!!

big_smile

Thanks for help!
