[SOLVED] cloning a hard drive, problems after booting

I am trying to clone my hard drive and I managed to boot the system from the cloned hard drive, but I get some weird problems afterwards.

In order to clone my old hard drive, I recreacted the partition scheme on the new drive, mounted it and run the following rsync command:

rsync -aAXSH \
      --delete \
      --stats \
      --info=progress2 \
      --exclude="/dev/*" \
      --exclude="/proc/*" \
      --exclude="/sys/*" \
      --exclude="/tmp/*" \
      --exclude="/run/*" \
      --exclude="/mnt/*" \
      --exclude="/media/*" \
      --exclude="/lost+found" \
      / \
      "/mnt/"

Afterward I patch the following files:

/mnt/etc/fstab
/mnt/etc/default/grub
/mnt/etc/crypttab
/mnt/etc/openswap.conf

in order to correct the UUID of the new partitions.

The final step is to update the bootloader and create a boot entry from the new hard drive.

Then I boot from the new hard drive and I get a bunch of problem I didn't expect. Firstly, several services fail, such as: systemd-timesyncd.service, atd.service, avahi-daemon, user@1000.service, transmission, etc. Some services start successfully though.

After the logging prompt appears I cannot log in as a normal user (terminal shows quickly an error message and redraws the login prompt), but I can log in as a root.

From the root account I verified that all partitions have been mounted correctly. However, I cannot `su myusername`, with the message being given that

/bin/zsh permissions denied

however, at the same time I can execute zsh from the root account.

One of the problems I see in the logs that occurs for several services is the following

*.service: Failed to connect stdout to the journal socket, ignoring: Permission denied

You can find my journalctl from the new hard drive boot here: https://pastebin.com/rUCPmFQc

I am bit lost here, and will be happy to any advice.

Please provide

ls -ld / /bin /usr /usr/bin /bin/zsh

from the cloned system.

Re: [SOLVED] cloning a hard drive, problems after booting

Ok, I found out what was wrong. When cloning the mounted directory had incorrect permissions. The correct permissions are 755.
