Hello,
EGLStreams now works in plasma 5.16-1 with latest nvidia driver using
export KWIN_DRM_USE_EGL_STREAMS=1 in /etc/profile
But it's pretty buggy. plasmashell is crashing all the time, and the desktop is messed up.
Also, i couldn't make mpv play a video.
What is your experience?
Cheers

I have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 (390 Legacy drivers) and when I try to login to the wayland session I end up in TTY1 and it freezes. I tried your export command and it didn't improve my experience.

The phoronix site states:
This support requires a recent release of the NVIDIA proprietary graphics driver and also having the KWIN_DRM_USE_EGL_STREAMS=1 environment variable set for activating this back-end at run-time.
It may not work for legacy drivers...

According to https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topi … y-drivers/ driver version 390 should have EGLStreams.

Can the following sentence explain it?
The downside, though, is that any X applications need Xwayland to run which is currently limited to software rendering on Nvidia and the needed feature for HW accel will only be added in a later driver, so that will never reach the 390 driver.
Anyways, it kinda work in the 430 driver... hope it will work for everyone

Tried it but it is still to buggy to my taste.
Some bugs oke, but the panel does not show on the right display. Moving the panel crashes kwin and after a while the mouse pointer disappears and leaves me with a big black square where the pointer should be.
Need to fill a bug report but X is still best atm.
