Murmur not starting

This was a problem on git versions from the aur, but now the repo is doing the same thing.
Occassionaly this problem with the git versions was fixed by making a /var/run/murmur directory and chown murmur murmur, but that's apparently not helping yet.

Re: Murmur not starting

Come on, nmw, you should know better than to make a vague topic with no useful information.

Run it from a terminal, run it with strace, give us some more details about the problems you had/have with the git version. Give us something to work with.

Mod note: Moving to NC.

Re: Murmur not starting

According to systemctl status murmur the server is in activating prestart mode, but never completes.
And when murmur from the repos is installed it suggests reloading dbus, but I have to assume that's if dbus is being used.
Oh yes I believe I forgot that the sqlite database in /var/db/murmur is apparently different between git and repo.

Running murmurd directly gives:

SQL Error [INSERT INTO `channels` (`server_id`,`channel_id`,`parent_id`,`name`) VALUES (?,?,?,?)]: attempt to write a readonly database Unable to fetch row
error: communicator not destroyed during global destruction.

Ice versions from aur wouldn't work at all and the repo is starting ice.
ZeroCIce was a build dependency of the ice versions.

If the repo version works, I'll be switching over to it, but it doesn't seem to be working.
I figure since Murmur is in the repos that somebody else would be having this problem.
Mumble from the repos seems to be working just fine.

Re: Murmur not starting

So repo version is 1.3.0-rc1-5, and the aur murmur-static version has been updated to 1.3.0-rc1-4.
The repo version is using TLS 1.3 and the aur is still using TLS 1.2 with perfect forward secrecy.
The difference between murmur-static-1.2.19 to 1.3.0-rc1-4 is that 1.3.0rc1-4 complains about the existence of /var/lib/murmur that has to be removed from the 1.2.19 static.  Then 1.3.0rc1-4 uses /var/db/murmur.  Strange but true so as far as that had to chown murmur to directory at one point.  I think there was some difference there like that before as to which directory held the sqlite database. Probably in /etc/murmur.ini.

I was able to start recent repo version.  Possibly it was permissions or which /var directory it wanted to use.  Something like that.
