Laptop NVMe disk with MBR?
Is it possible to have a NVMe disk partitioned with MBR and boot from it in legacy mode (let's say with syslinux)? Or is GPT/UEFI required?

Not without jumping through hoops, no what for? I very much doubt that any laptop you could fit a nvme disk properly will have an issue with that.
