I created a profile by copying /etc/netctl/examples/wireless-wpa to /etc/netctl/myprofile and replacing Interface, ESSID, and Key with the appropriate values for my network. I ran
netctl enable myprofileto connect to wireless on system startup. When I reboot, the systemd service startup attempt for myprofile results in a timeout after 1m 30s. After the timeout I can login and run
journalctl -u netctl@myprofile | less which shows
Jun 28 05:13:35 gannon systemd[1]: Starting MyProfile WPA Wireless Connection...
Jun 28 05:13:35 gannon network[582]: Starting network profile 'myprofile'...
Jun 28 05:15:05 gannon systemd[1]: netctl@myprofile.service: Start operation timed out. Terminating.
Jun 28 05:15:05 gannon systemd[1]: netctl@myprofile.service: Main process exited, code=killed, status=15/TERM
Jun 28 05:15:05 gannon systemd[1]: netctl@myprofile.service: Failed with result 'timeout'.
Jun 28 05:15:05 gannon systemd[1]: Failed to start MyProfile WPA Wireless Connection. However, if I reboot and then hit keys on my keyboard during the systemd service startup attempt it connects! Why?

Your system does not have enough entropy. Try installing https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Haveged
