[SOLVED] xorg fails to start if xorg.conf exists

I can boot into my setup if no extra files exist for xorg, if something exists in xorg.conf.d or xorg.conf exists then xorg fails to load and i get an error.

My laptop is a MSI GS65, with NVIDIA and Intel graphics. I have one module in my mkinitcpio and that's nvidia.

But I cant really seem to fix or understand the problem, any help would be appricated.

I have tried using several different xorg.conf, from auto configured by NVIDIA and some i found online, but all of it is the same.

The reason I am trying to fix this is because without the xorg.conf file i cant seem to get xbacklight to work.

Also more generally, you will likely want to use something more modern than xbacklight, like light

The solution from the reddit thread you referenced was to configure the system for hybrid graphics.
Your system also uses hybrid graphics.  What configuration for hybrid graphics have you done?
The Xorg.log supplied ends with

[  1135.941] (II) Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file.

Indicating X starting and running which contradicts the thread title.  You have not supplied the Xorg.conf that was used to produce that Xorg.log.

I did what the wiki said and I got a black screen, any more ideas?

The "light" package worked fine!

Using i3 this did not work, any idea?

I haven't done much configuration for the graphics.

I did not use any xorg.conf file to boot my system, when i do i cant start xorg. But maybe its more helpful with a log of a unsuccessful boot.. I will try that.

I dont know if this is the log file with the xorg.conf as i am changing back and forth to post this. I have tried as best as I can to follow the instructions but i still get a blank/black screen.

Okey maybe i am overthinking this then, how do i know if everything works fine? It said I could test it with the following command "$ optirun glxgears -info", and that works for me. Is everything good to go then?

depends on the output of it, likely yes, check the used OpenGL renderer when run without (should be intel) and with optirun (should be nvidia).

FWIW if that's your intention you should not need the nvidia module in your mkinitcpio conf as you wouldn't want it loaded by default.
