Can't arch-chroot to recover after failed upgrade [SOLVED]

Hi,

First of all, writing on a smartphone so I beg a little patience...

So my latest upgrade led to a kernel panic (I have a sneaking suspicion it was systems that did it) and I tried booting from the live usb, which I just created for the purpose. After mounting the root device on /mnt, when I go arch-chroot /mnt I get the following message:
/bin/bash: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libc.so.6: undefined symbol _rgs, version GLIBC_2.2.5

And I can't chroot... I have some experience dealing with broken upgrades but not being able to chroot is a new one for me...

Thanks in advance for any help...

Suspicion it was *systemd* that did it! Damned autocorrect!

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pa … _rebooting :

If you cannot enter the arch-chroot or chroot environment but need to re-install packages you can use the command pacman --sysroot /mnt -Syu foo bar to use pacman on your root partition.

If --sysroot doesn't work, try --root instead.

Thanks for that! It seems that I'm not able to get an ethernet connexion either... I'm going to go shoot myself now...

Wired or wireless?

Edit: Also, you don't need an internet connection if you want to downgrade or remove a package. (Unless you cleared your cache)

Hi,

So I solved the ethernet problem (DHCP).

How do I downgrade to my previous system configuration? I didn't clear the cache.
Thanks

Check your pacman.log on what was updated, however that specific error you got from chrooting makes me more inclined that you  are partial updating and should rather run a proper complete system update than downgrading stuff. (Or worse installed something as root that replaced core libraries with older broken versions...)

Hi,

Solved it!

I try to never partial update but maybe that happened... I reinstalled glibc using the pacman --root ... above and everything started working! Full system upgrade and I'm up and running. This is why Linux rocks!
Thank you all for your help!
