I'm experiencing the behaviour in KDE on Arch that when I change monitor resolution, the requested resolution is briefly rendered before quickly returning to the default resolution.
The selected resolutions are valid for the monitor, and are validly rendered briefly but only remain set for a moment before the previous resolution of 800 x 600 is reapplied.
I've tried following a few guides including https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xr … er_a_blink and https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=238561 but they don't seem completely applicable to my situation: I'm not running gnome, and I can't find a ~/.config/monitors.xml file
A few outputs that might be relevant:
xrandr -q https://pastebin.com/whkx1rU6
xorg.log https://pastebin.com/n0HLHcpm
dmesg https://pastebin.com/AAYx89Ep
I'm running a pretty cleanly build install following the beginner's guide. I have run `pacman -Syu` after collecting the above outputs but the behavior remains.

It would help to mention that you are running this in a virtual machine: Is 3D acceleration enabled? https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VM … celeration and VT-D and the like? What's the host system? You might also want to do relevant setup mentioned in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VM … figuration

thanks for the reply.
Host is a mid 2014 MBP 11,3 with discrete graphics https://everymac.com/systems/apple/macb … specs.html https://support.apple.com/kb/SP704?locale=en_US running vmware fusion 8.5.10.
3D acceleration is currently disabled for the arch guest. I don't believe VT-D is an option? I haven't located VT-D in any of fusion's settings at least. If there are any other details that may help I'd be happy to provide them.
I'll follow the setup mentioned at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VM … figuration and report back.

VT-D/X as in intel's virtualization extensions, not that familiar with mac firmwares, one usually enables that in the BIOS/UEFI, at least according to https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203296 it should probably be enabled by default if possible.
