[SOLVED] Dual monitor issue with i3

Hi,

I have a PC with a nVidia GTX 970 and two monitors connected, one (old Samsung SyncMaster) via HDMI and other one (Dell P2715Q) via DP.
Today I've installed i3 window manager and I noticed this issue: my Dell monitor seems to be not recognized anymore at boot if it is in sleep mode, as you can see in my Xorg.0.log:

Anyway if I launch xrandr I get this output:

Then if I launch nvidia-settings the Dell display is listed (as xrandr states) but shown as disabled, enabling it makes everything work again, anyway until next reboot.
While I've noticed that if I choose deepin as windows manager the Dell monitor automatically wakes up and everything is working correctly.

Another strange thing, if the Dell display is not in sleep mode at Linux boot, it is detected correctly, despite it is then layouted on the wrong side (despite my settings in the xorg.conf file).
BTW Dell display goes in sleep mode very quickly if it is not receiving any signal, so it is very annoying and hard to avoid.

Any idea how to fix it?

Hmm, maybe run xrandr --auto in your sway i3 startup, e.g. with exec_once?

Edit: Why did I write sway instead of i3? i wanted to talk about i3 and xrandr is clearly for xorg and not wayland...

Thank for the quick reply.

I have tried to add 

exec --no-startup-id xrandr --auto

to my i3 config file (I am not using sway), it makes the monitor wakes up, but the two screens sharing the same origin, so the Dell monitor (that is a 4K display) is mirroring in its top left corner what is shown in the other display. So it seems that is ignoring my Xorg file, that it is the following:

Please remove that file and instead add sth. like: /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/11-monitor.conf

If things still fail, please post your xorg log.
In general avoid static configurations and especially those written by nvidia-xconfig/nvidia-settings.
