Wifi not working[solved]

Hi first time poster here,

I have some problems with the wifi of my  HP Laptop 15-bw0xx. The ethernet interface works fine but with the network interface i had/have some problems.
At first it didn't have the proper drivers after a lot of hassle i have those now but now it wont start the interface. I have tried

ip set link interface

and everything I could find in the arch wiki but

iw interface link

keeps saying that its not connected. I cannot get it to work. I have nm and dhclient installed but I tried reinstalling and trying without already.
Here's some info that could be useful
dmesg
lspci -vvv
lsmod

I hope this is enough information and a sincere thank you to everyone that decides to help me out!

Both those commands are wrong.

Work through the wireless page on the wiki methodically, and post the exact commands you used and the error messages/output where you encounter a wall.

sudo ip link set wlp2s0 up

no output is normal right?

ip link show wlp2s0

sudo iw dev wlp2s0 scan

gives no output and when I try

iw dev wlp2s0 link

Re: Wifi not working[solved]

Your dmesg suggests that you've network manager running - did you stop it before conducting this test?

Re: Wifi not working[solved]

post a complete journal "sudo journalctl -b" after failing attempts to scan for APs.

Re: Wifi not working[solved]

There seems no obvious error.
a) Are you sure there's a 2.4GHz AP around? (The chip does not seem to do 5GHz)
b) What if you rfkill bluetooth?

Ah you're right i have a 5GHz ap for the main network. But i also have a guest network that is 2.4GHz.
rfkill bluetooth gives the try --help message
In irc someone said nm was activated by dbus activation after i stopped it.

Re: Wifi not working[solved]

That wasn't meant as a literal command  (thus no code tags)… just to use rfkill to block BT.

man rfkill

The 2.4GHz AP is in reasonable range active and responds (to other devices)?

The router is downstairs and i can connect with my mobile phone.
I should've known it wasn't a literal command..

Re: Wifi not working[solved]

I got it to work by uninstalling Networkmanager and using connman instead I can even connect to the 5Ghz network!
Thanks for everyones time and for future reference:

Apperently NetworkManager wasn't stopped by systemctl stop networkmanager because it got activated again with dbus (thanks to the irc channel)

Well it worked for a few minutes.
connman detects the 5GHz network but not the 2.4GHz and when i connected to the 5GHz it worked for some time. I could ping archlinux.org and use my browser but then it just stopped agian.

Re: Wifi not working[solved]

If the connection is bad, you may need to use ant_sel=2: https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new

This is one of those annoying realtek devices, right?

You could also try the deprecated iwconfig instead of iw. I'm not sure if those drivers still use wext...

Thank you so much i finally got some useful output and i got it to work with my 5GHz network. I hope it will keep running like this but combining this and connman worked for some reason. Probably because nm was messing with things but thank you so much and seth too you really made my day!
