[SOLVED] thunar: USB drive unmount/eject

Hello,

Am having some issues with thunar and USB flash drives. eject/unmount operation is taking long (1 min+). During that time, thunar UI freezes too..

Running thunar '1.8.6' from arch linux.

As I read through docs, came to know that thunar uses gio/gvfs backend for mount/unmount/eject operations. But when I test with the Files (nautilus), unmount/eject works instantly. As the nautilus uses same gio/gvfs, issue is in thunar or some of my configurations ?

Would like to get some help in debugging the issue.

Thanks !

Re: [SOLVED] thunar: USB drive unmount/eject

To cover some low hanging fruit, what are the outputs of

hostnamectl
printenv | grep DBUS
loginctl session-status

post these in [ code ] [ /code ] tags. Any terminal output in thunar suggesting why it might take so long?

Re: [SOLVED] thunar: USB drive unmount/eject

For testing, I fresh-installed archlinux into another partition, with xorg, xfce, thunar and gvfs.. Here unmount/eject for usb drives works fine (happens instantly, no freezing..) !
Looks like there is some issue with my original archlinux setup.. Still trying to figure out..

I see that Volume Manager is for handling automount and simillar actions.. Thunar can still mount drives manually without volume manager. My issues are related to unmount/eject..

Re: [SOLVED] thunar: USB drive unmount/eject

I was thinking that running thunar as a daemon might help with the issue (I think that Xfce does that by default).

Oh.. i missed that part earlier..

But running as daemon also doesn't solve my issue.. Logging into xfce desktop environment also doesn't help.. (it starts thunar as daemon as you said).

Re: [SOLVED] thunar: USB drive unmount/eject

TL;DR
Problem solved !
By installing and launching one of 'Notification server' mentioned here:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/De … on_servers

---

I tried to debug thunar with gio debug as mentioned here
https://developer.gnome.org/gio/stable/ … -apps.html

as:

$ G_DBUS_DEBUG=all  tunar

While analyzing logs, found this timeout related to org.freedesktop.Notifications:

So, guessed it might be due to not properly setting up notification server.
So tried to setup Dunst notification daemon as specified in:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/De … on_servers
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dunst

And now thunar works fine ! Unmount/Eject works instantly without UI freeze.
