VirtualBox Shared Folders: Arch Guest in Windows Host

I'm posting a solution to a problem which I myself have had for some time and which I know other people have had as well, in the hope that it might help someone out there.

For anyone having issues getting Shared Folders on their Arch Guest to work in Oracle VirtualBox, there is an extremely simple solution: don't waste your time.

I've gotten Shared Folders to work intermittently over the past two years, but each time I upgrade my Arch system something goes wrong with the Shared Folders and it is unable to mount them for one reason or another. I've had a whole range of errors, and I believe at its core it has something to do with incompatibility between the Virtual Box Guest Additions that come with VirtualBox (distributed in an ISO with the downloadable on Windows) and that downloadable using pacman.

After a recent upgrade of my Arch system, the same thing happened again. Fed up, and not being able to find any solution for it, I looked at alternatives. I discovered Samba was exactly what I was looking for, since I want to create folders on my Windows Host to be shared in my ArchLinux guest. The setup is extremely straightforward, it involves sharing the folder you want on Windows, then connecting to it via smbclient, supplying a username and password. You can also updated your /etc/fstab so that the whole thing is automatically done on startup.

I've been running this new configuration for over a week and not only is it a much more robust solution which works perfectly each time I start up my Arch Guest, but here is the best thing about it: it is considerably faster than Shared Folders ever was. I am running my Arch Guest Networking in NAT mode, which is perfect for my requirements.

If anyone needs any help with any of this, please let me know and I'll try my best to provide more detailed information. This has caused my untold frustrations over the last couple of years and I'm glad I finally found a better solution for it.
