Hi !
I have two disk in my laptop : One of 125 G and one of 1T. I set my fstab in the following way in order to make the 1T disk to be mount on boot :
# <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
# /dev/sdb3
UUID=8ba4455d-70ad-4f08-a152-cd34a649e363 / ext4 rw,relatime 0 1
# /dev/sdb1
UUID=9c05cb5e-fed2-44c5-b117-19b56afd48e2 /boot ext4 rw,relatime 0 2
# /dev/sdb4
UUID=8d61fbbd-baba-4990-a90a-32756ed0d48f /home ext4 rw,relatime 0 2
# /dev/sdb2
UUID=f3a46935-e95b-40ba-9a02-1440cbe05cf8 none swap defaults 0 0
# /dev/sda1
UUID=487F73012EAEBF4F /home/quarroz/Data ntfs rw,auto,uid=1000,gid=998 0 2The disk is mounted on boot. Output of "fdisk -l" for the 1T disk.
Disk /dev/sda: 931.53 GiB, 1000204886016 bytes, 1953525168 sectors
Disk model: WDC WD10SPCX-60K
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 4096 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 4096 bytes / 4096 bytes
Disklabel type: dos
Disk identifier: 0xe7a1d214
Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type
/dev/sda1 * 2048 1953523711 1953521664 931.5G 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFATNevertheless, I have two problems with this disk.
The first one is related to the permission of the disk. The entire folder /home/quarroz/Data is :
drwxrwxrwx 1 quarroz wheel 8.0K Jul 12 10:05 DataSo I correctly set the owner of the disk, but it is impossible to change the permissions to 700 for example. I tried "chmod -R 700 ./Data", "chmod 700 -R ./Data" etc ... I suspect it is linked to the option in fstab but I did not find which one I should use.
The second one is related to mpd for the music. I have my music on this same disk. The problem is that mpd will not detect the music if I set the path to Data. I checked that mpd correctly works if the Music is on the 125G disk. Is it also link to some boot option ?
Thank you in advance if you have some ideas to help me !

You have a ntfs disk, they do not implement unix permissions, you can either set up a windows user -> linux user mapping or define a default mask during mount. These permissions don't exist, they get faked to what you defined during mount, which is also why chmodding them doesn't make sense and should in fact not work.
Also in case you are actually using the limited read only ntfs driver right now, you will more likely want to read: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NTFS-3G if you intend to do any writes. (And for the permissions during mount https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NT … ermissions )
As which user are you starting MPD? If you are defining the mount point to be owned and operated by your user, you will likely want to set up mpd as your user as well

Ok I did not know that. Thank you ![]()
I have installed ntfs-3g and replaced the corresponding line in fstab by this :
# /dev/sda1
UUID=487F73012EAEBF4F /home/quarroz/Data ntfs-3g uid=1000,gid=998,dmask=022,fmask=133 0 0 The "permissions" are now :
drwxr-xr-x 1 quarroz wheel 8.0K Jul 12 10:05 DataActually, my mpd.conf is the following :
db_file "~/.config/mpd/database"
log_file "~/.config/mpd/log"
music_directory "~/Data/Music/"
playlist_directory "~/.config/mpd/playlists"
pid_file "~/.config/mpd/pid"
state_file "~/.config/mpd/state"
sticker_file "~/.config/mpd/sticker.sql"
auto_update "yes"
bind_to_address "127.0.0.1"
restore_paused "yes"
max_output_buffer_size "16384"
audio_output {
type "pulse"
name "pulse audio"
mixer_type "software"
}
audio_output {
type "fifo"
name "toggle_visualizer"
path "/tmp/mpd.fifo"
format "44100:16:2"
}It does not work for the moment. I am trying to understand why.

That's a separate issue; mark this as solved and open a new thread with debugging info and errors for mpd.
