i3 floating window leaves tearing

When I have a floating window in i3, it tears only when dragged on my main monitor, (75hz) but not on my second monitor (60hz). Any ideas? I have nvidia drivers installed. Xrandr setup is (xrandr --output DP-0 --mode 1920x1080 --rate 74.92 --output HDMI-0 --mode 1920x1200 --rate 59.95)

Re: i3 floating window leaves tearing

This only effects some windows for some reason. Not too sure

Re: i3 floating window leaves tearing

In the future, please son't bump, edit your post instead.
Your GPU can only sync to one output (that's a HW limitation), the tearing is likely rather a result of the compositor (compton?) than the WM (i3)
If you run both outputs at 60Hz you might be lucky to have pretty aligned vblank signals (but that's random every time you connect/activate the outputs) so the tear line (if any) will be near the edge.
Otherwise you might be better off to disable vsync'ing in the compositor (because that tearing is usually less annoying that a constant 150% offset)

Re: i3 floating window leaves tearing

Seconding Seth, though it may be possible to have one of the monitors have a somewhat choppy refresh rate instead of tearing with some configuration. This was my case with using Intel graphics with kwin by setting my primary display to my 75Hz and changing Kwin's config to add "MaxFPS=75"

Re: i3 floating window leaves tearing

Thanks I didn't actually have a compositor setup so I went ahead and setup Compton which made everything work  and transparent windows are working too
