[SOLVED] System reboots/shutdowns when the lid is closed

The system reboots/shutdowns itself when the lid is closed. I haven't had this problem before.
This has started to happening just recently. Can't remember when, maybe, after the last system update.

Re: [SOLVED] System reboots/shutdowns when the lid is closed

Now it reboots itself by acpid command.

What I did.
- Ignored HandleLidSwitch in /etc/systemd/logind.conf and verified closing the lid do not trigger reboot anymore.
- Then added sleep command into /etc/acpi/handler.sh

    button/lid)
        case "$3" in
            close)
                echo -n mem >/sys/power/state
                logger 'LID closed'
                ;;
            open)
                logger 'LID opened'
                ;;
            *)
                logger "ACPI action undefined: $3"
                ;;

Now it seems that acpid triggers the reboot.

Re: [SOLVED] System reboots/shutdowns when the lid is closed

Jul 13 13:51:59 archer systemd[1]: Started TLP suspend/resume.

Just a hunch, drop TLP to see whether it's the culprit.

Re: [SOLVED] System reboots/shutdowns when the lid is closed

What I meant was to purge the package or at least disable the service (and ensure it's not running)

Re: [SOLVED] System reboots/shutdowns when the lid is closed

Disabled now tlp.service. And verified it's not running.

systemctl | grep tlp

yields no results.

Still it reboots itself on suspend.

Interestingly, even though tlp.service is not running, "Started TLP suspend/resume" is still in journal.

Re: [SOLVED] System reboots/shutdowns when the lid is closed

There's tlp-sleep.service which is triggered by the suspend - you'll have to mask it or temporarily remove the package.

Re: [SOLVED] System reboots/shutdowns when the lid is closed

Removed tlp. No tlp entries anymore in journal. Still reboots itself on suspend.

Re: [SOLVED] System reboots/shutdowns when the lid is closed

Nope. Since this seems a regression and ACPI (not the daemon) related:
a) did you try the lts kernel?
b) do you have a parallel windows installation?
c) are any BIOS updates available?
d) is the behavior independent from the power supply (battery ./. wall plug)?
e) try to explicitly power the system down for a cold reboot (in case the power state is otherwise messed up in the BIOS)

Re: [SOLVED] System reboots/shutdowns when the lid is closed

Outdated BIOS, that seemed to be the problem. Updated it and that solved the problem!
Now system suspends correctly without rebooting itself.

Thank you. I really appreciate your help.

Cool.
Please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.
