System bell not working

Whenever i enter the command below:

$ echo -e \\007

or

$ beep

It doesn't make a sound on my speakers

Can you please help me how to fix/enable this?

Is the module loaded:

lsmod | grep pcspkr

And the volume for the on-board speaker is up and unmuted?  (check alsamixer)

And do you have an onbaord speaker to begin with?
Also: do you actually want to produce a pure tone or just have the TE make "dinggg" on occasions? In the latter case: which TE?
