I am new to ArchLinux, although I have experience with other linux distros. I have recently installed ArchLinux 5.2 on an old Toshiba laptop.
Now I need to get linux to work on a new Dell XPS 15 7590. The system description is:
XPS 15 7590
9th Generation Intel Core i9-9980HK (16MB Cache, up to 5.0GHz, 8 cores)
Windows 10 Home 64bit English
NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5
32GB DDR4-2666MHz, 2x16G
1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD
Silver
15.6" 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) OLED InfinityEdge Anti-Reflective Non-Touch 100% DCI-P3 400-Nits display
Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650 (2x2) and Bluetooth 5.0
There is a WiKi page that describes some of the issues: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dell_XPS_15_7590
I have copied an image from http://ca.us.mirror.archlinux-br.org/is … x86_64.iso onto a USD drive, and have booted from the memory stick. ArchLinux 5.1.15 does come up, however the size of the font used is so small that it is illegible without a magnifying glass.
My immediate question is on which forum should this message be posted to come to the attention of folks who might be able to help me through this installation. Once the installation has been completed how could I make the process availble to others who might want to do the same installation?

Welcome to the arch linux forums Clinton Winant. If you disable modesetting does that change the resolution?

Thanks SO MUCH for helping: at the prompt I typed disable modesetting, the reply was
disable: no such hash table element: modesetting
Offline
nomodeset i915.modeset=0 nouveau.modeset=0Offline
the reply to that was
zsh:command not found: nomodeset
I think I am in a catch 22, since the network isnt working, I only have the system loaded from the usb. I suppose I could try usb tethering?

Please see the link Kernel_parameters which was linked to from the previous link I provided.
You need to pass the parameters to the bootloader which will pass them to the kernel. You do not pass them to the shell after the system has booted and you have logged in.

Brillant! that worked. What should I do to close this. I suppose further questions about my installation belong on the Installation forum

What should I do to close this
Edit your first post and prepend [SOLVED] to the title.

I cannot reproduce the step in the foregoing procedure where I add the modeset lines during boots. Here is what I do:
Once the grub menu appears, with ArchLinux as the first choice I enter e. A longish line beginning with 'initird' appears. I scroll to the end of that line and enter
initrd=\initramfs-linux.img root=/dev/sda2 nomodeset i915.modeset=0 nouveau.modeset=0
The loader responds with:
Failed to open file initramfs-linux.img
Trying to load files to higher address
Failed to open file initramfs-linux.img
The system then hangs

How did you install Arch?

I have copied the 1019.07.01 iso to a usb drive. Currently I can load ArchLinux from that drive, with the very small fonts. When I try to change the kernel parameters, the boot is unsuccesful

You don't change the kernel parameters, you append the specific nomodeset options.

Thanks I am out of my depth here, but enjoy learning this
