I wanted to remove unused locales so I installed/ran localepurge, then I had the bright idea of freeing up some disk space by deleting most of the directories under /usr/share/locale which I now realise was a bad idea because pacman always complains about missing file information (see below). I've tried running localegen which put back all the missing stuff under /usr/share/locale but pacman is still complaining. It doesn't seem to have any adverse effects but I'd like to get rid of the annoying warnings.
# sudo pacman -Syu

Locale-gen is not relevant to this. You manually removed files that are tracked by pacman for the systemd package. So when you update the systemd package, pacman will tell you about the problem.
Have you added these unwanted locales to NoExtract in pacman.conf?
There's nothing wrong with deleting most of the unused paths under /usr/share/locale - I have done so as well. But I also prevent pacman from extracting those files again, otherwise you're not really saving space, just adding lots of disk writes every time you delete them and re-add them again.

Do you think this will do the trick?
