Something strange happened on my other laptop. After I rebooted it wouldnt go into x, just gave me a black screen I couldnt get out of short of rebooting. I tried to fix this for several hours and decided to do a fresh install instead. Now that I did that the same problem persists. Did the graphic card collapse or something? Outside of x is ok..
I found now that I can startx with startx -- -depth 8
Can this be a driver issue (my card is a generic laptop one) or is it the card itself.
In /var/log/Xorg.0.log I got these (WW)'s: some nonexisting fonts, "XkbLayout" requires an string value and, this looks important, VESA(0): Bad V_BIOS checksum
Also when I close the wm I only get the same black screen as above and have to reboot.
