Hi,
I have weird issue with Android phone connection. I have Google Pixel 2 Android Phone and Thinkpad t470s laptop with Arch. This laptop has one USB-C port and when I connect my Android phone via USB-C port, then it works properly and I'm able to debug the phone and I can see it after typing
lsusbor
adb devices.
When I connect the same phone via USB cable to any USB port (one side of the cable is USB-C for the phone and another is USB), then Arch cannot see the phone and I cannot debug it. Moreover, phone battery is charging. I checked it on two different cables and behavior is the same. Some time ago it worked on Ubuntu on the same laptop. It worked on Macbook Pro too after installing external driver/program.
I prefer to use USB than USB-C for this because I use USB-C port for my monitor and charging laptop battery.
I found out people had similar problems here: https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/co … r_via_usb/ but no concrete solution was found. I'm afraid it may be an Android hardware or software issue, so it may occur on other systems too.
Have you encountered the same issue? Do you know how to fix it?
Regards

On Android you can specify the usb mode after plugin: charging, MTP or PTP. Please google for your device how to select.
Also try to plug in the usb-c cable on andoid side reverse, sometimes it's not the same :-)
Do you use the original cable that comes with the google pixel 2 ?

I know, but I have these options disabled while connecting USB<->USB-C cable.

Tried that. Effect is the same.

Yes, but only for USB-C<->USB-C connection and it works fine. For USB<->USB-C connection I have Baseus cable (there's no original Pixel 2 cable for that connection). I even tried connecting i with original Pixel 2 cable and USB-C<->USB Baseus adapter/dongle, but effect was the same. I tried all combinations of reversing cable connection with dongle/adapter.
I'm afraid, it may be an Android OS bug or something like that because people on reddit also have that issue of different OSes.

If you should happen to have a dual boot set up with Windows, I would be interested in knowing if it can be made to work from Windows. That would help isolate the cable. Second best would be to check it on a different computer running Windows.

Unfortunately, I don't have dual boot. I'll try to verify this on a separate computer with Windows.
