[SOLVED] Installation next to Windows 10, Replace Ubuntu by Arch

Hi! I have a question about installing Arch! I have installed Windows 10 on my SSD and Ubuntu on my HDD.
On my SSD (256GB) I have 4 partitions. 1. EFI system partition (400mib) 2. Microsoft reserverd partiton (16mib) 3. Basic data partiton (231.58GiB) 4. (unnamed) 918 mib).
On my HDD I have also 4 partitions. 1. Basic data partition (785.03GiB). 2. / (Ubuntu root Partition) 27.94GiB.
3. /home (Ubuntu Home) 118.42 GiB) 4. Microsoft reserved partiton 127 MiB
My system starts with the GRUB-Bootloader installed with the Windows Bootloader on the EFI system partition. I want to replace Ubuntu (/ and /home) with Arch. Now do I have to delete the GRUB-Bootloader or can it stay where it is? Do I need a swap partition or is / and /home enough? I ask these questions because I want to make sure that the installation goes well and that I do not get any unexpected problems. I would format the partitions with Ubuntu installed and install Arch there.
Greetings

Re: [SOLVED] Installation next to Windows 10, Replace Ubuntu by Arch

Hello, Lockna,

I'd like to recommend the following. I know it sucks, but do full backup of everything.
I've shot my systems through carelessness before. Just wanted to say it.

I don't see any major problem coming up, except that you have to be careful with the partitions at installation time. The names can change when you boot with a stick, etc.

You can install Arch exactly where you now have ubuntu, that's right.

You don't have to delete Grub, you may just want to delete your old UEFI BIOS entry and create a new one.

The question if you need a SWAP partition depends on how you want to use your system.
Basically, I would say that no modern system with more than 4GB RAM needs one, but if you want to work with suspend to disk etc., you do.
And there are probably also applications that need a SWAP, but you can also create a SWAP file, that would be sufficient.
If you need help, you are welcome to ask.

I use Linux only for programming. Programms like IntelliJ, PyCharm and Atom. I have 8GB of RAM. I know I've shot my HDD too^^. I'll give it a try, when I fail I'll ask xD

Hi! Now I have installed Arch Linux. Everything works fine for the moment. But the only thing is Windows 10 isn't showing up the the GRUB menu. Have you an idea what I can do? I have the Windows Bootloader and the Grub Bootloader on the same partition. (The partiton made by windows)

Re: [SOLVED] Installation next to Windows 10, Replace Ubuntu by Arch

Solved it with "sudo os-prober" and "grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg"
