I've been solely relying on pacman for all my package installation. I never actually had to rely on aur packages until and compiling packages from source. I was trying to build unity for arch from source. I encountered certain things which I would love to get it clarified before I proceed further installing it.
One of the package I wanted to install from aur was gtk3-ubuntu. I used yay to do it and encountered package conflicts. Here is the output:
yay -S gtk3-ubuntu
:: Checking for conflicts...
:: Checking for inner conflicts...
==> Package conflicts found:
-> Installing gtk3-ubuntu will remove: gtk3, gtk3 (gtk3-print-backends)
==> Conflicting packages will have to be confirmed manually

[Aur: 1] gtk3-ubuntu-3.22.30-2
==> Remove make dependencies after install? [y/N] N^[^CI don't know if it's a wise move to remove the conflicting packages manually as I am unsure that there could be other packages that are depending on gt3 or gtk3 (gtk3-print-backends). Ideally I should be encountering similar conflicts with other packages when I install from aur. How do I proceed further or any advice on how to manage aur packages and packages built from source would help a lot and would be appreciated. Thanks.
Edit: And also there was this warning on the Arch Wiki.
Warning: Installing Unity means that many official packages will be replaced with patched Ubuntu versions. Be careful to check the resulting package conflictsOffline
First, if you are just learning how this works do not use yay, or any other helper. Use pacman and makepkg.
But more on topic, this has nothing to do with the AUR specifically. This is simply a case of a patched package providing and conflicting with the unpatched package - this happens with (some) repo packages as well. If you want to use gtk3-ubuntu it provides gtk3 and gtk3-print-backends, so anything that depends on these two packages will have their dependencies satisfied by gtk3-ubuntu once it is installed.
Build gtk3-ubuntu with makepkg, then when you install it with pacman, pacman will remove the conflicting packages in the same transaction.

will pacman automatically figure out to update gtk3 and gtk3-print-backend the next time I do an update? How would you update it later on? How can I fully understand about all these, I couldn't find relevant info on the wiki pages.

Did you read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ar … Repository ? Completely?

No, for this question it's relevant that it's an AUR package. You are responsible for updating your own AUR packages as you see fit (or as is required by any versioned dependencies).

why can't I mark this post solved, I can't edit the post's title to include [SOLVED]. Seems weird

It's probably just too long.
