[SOLVED] xfce startup hangs after reaching graphical interface

Hi,

While booting a updated install of Arch x64, i cannot seem to get XFCE to "get on with it" at boot. It hangs for a long long time on well...... something.

In the journalctl this is rather clear. See the difference between:
Aug 01 21:27:14 HPArch dbus-daemon[574]: [session uid=1000 pid=574] Successfully activated service 'org.xfce.Xfconf'
Aug 01 21:27:37 HPArch systemd[564]: Started GnuPG cryptographic agent and passphrase cache.

Included is also the systemd-analyze && systemd-analyze blame output.

I really do not know how to further analyze this problem, can any of you less nooby users give me a direction?

also, hope this post will not get shot for me being stupid... i hope to learn why i am being stupid smile

edit:
forgot to mention, it's a lightdm for dm. And i think i run xorg, but not 100%sure.

No, but we seriously need to get better information into this thread.

1. why are you unsure about your display server? How did you configure it?
2. why do you run dhcpcd netxt to networkmanager? Did you read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … figuration
3. what does "get on with it" actually mean? Do you reach lightdm, enter username and password but then xfce doesn't start?
4. that's not your journal, please paste the output of "sudo journalctl -b", you can make use of https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pastebin

Re: [SOLVED] xfce startup hangs after reaching graphical interface

Fair enough, thank you for being so straightforward!

I would like to point out that the problem now appears to have something to do with LightDM's auto authentication. I followed the wiki to turn it on, but it is really slow when i do, however if i disable it, it is rather fast to log in. But than, it's slow because i type. (edit) not funny, also not accurate, it simply fixes the problem(/edit) At least some GUI is loaded at this point almost immediately.

1: it seemed insignificant at the time to take either wayland, or xorg(x11?). I guess i ended up with x11. I can verify this by doing "loginctl show-session $(awk '/tty/ {print $1}' <(loginctl)) -p Type | awk -F= '{print $2}'" there it clearly responds with X11.

2: yea kinda still need to fix that, i can kill dhcpd, as i now prefer networkmanager, i just did not disable it yet. I am indeed guilty of being sloppy.

3: blank screen on high resolution, while the login is taking place (autologon)

4: it's not?

additionally, sometimes it is better to give up for a night, and try again in the morning, i might therefore reply a bit slow. So far by having to type it all out and think about things at least i found it is in the autologin. And have something to search for.
