Ktorrent info widget not working

Greetings!

So I've noticed that the tab at the bottom of Ktorrent where you could for example see the list of files in a torrent, select which to down/upload, get peer information etc. went missing. After some searching I've found a Reddit post pointing to a KDE bugreport, in which the reporter says that supposedly this is a downstream bug with Arch. But I could not find any bug tickets or forum threads about this issue.

Anyone else having this? Is there a ticket on it somewhere or should we create one? Is it even confirmed that it's not an upstream issue?

Hey Storm,

if you would've followed the link to the package-commit at the bottom of the KDE-bug-report (or payed attention to the optional dependencies of ktorrent) you would have found out that the geoip-package is necessary to use the info widget.

Normally ktorrent tries to download it's own geoip-database. This failed for some reason so the build-process of ktorrent was configured to use the system-wide geoip-database.

And even if it did not fail it would be a good idea to use the system-wide database, since it would be redundant if ktorrent would download its own and the geoip-package was already installed.

If you have looked at the timestamps of that comment, my comment above it and this thread you would have seen that said comment with the link was made well after I made this thread here.

I'm sorry, I don't have a crystal ball. When something that worked for years suddenly stops working, without getting any error messages, my first thought is that it's a regression. And in my personal experiecne of running Arch for several years, this was the first time that it was something else.

I thank you for your reply and explanation, installing geoip indeed fixed the issue. But I feel the tone of your reply was uncalled for.
