[SOLVED] ecryptfs mount - no such device

Hello,

I have been using ecryptfs to encrypt/decrypt a folder on my hard-drive for the last year, but for the last month (or two) I have received the following message when trying to mount:

mount: No such device

To unencrypt:

 stty -echo; printf "Passphrase: " 1>&2; read PASSWORD; stty echo; echo $PASSWORD; ) | ecryptfs-insert-wrapped-passphrase-into-keyring /home/username/.ecryptfs/wrapped-passphrase -
Passphrase: Inserted auth tok with sig [signature] into the user session keyring

'signature' is the same value located in /home/rhurdle/.ecryptfs/secret.sig

To mount:

mount.ecryptfs_private secret
mount: No such device

secret (as defined in /home/username/.ecryptfs/secret.conf)

/home/username/.secret /home/username/personal/secret ecryptfs

The folders

file /home/username/.secret
/home/username/.secret: directory

file /home/username/personal/secret
/home/username/personal/secret: directory

Does this error mean that the folder is corrupted?

Thanks. I saw that and didn't think it applied because I thought the OP was building his own kernel. But looking more closely, I think it might be the same issue.

I also found this bug report which may be relevant.

Rebuilding the kernel is beyond my current abilities sad
... but it looks like the problem in known and is being worked on.

I guess I'll wait for the fix to be pushed out.

Install the LTS kernel and see if you experience the same issue.

Yes, that solved the problem and allowed me to access the files that I needed. No data corruption involved. That is very comforting.

Thank you very much!

Cheers, tongue

====================

Installing the LTS kernel was a lot easier than I expected.

1. download and install the kernel

$ sudo pacman -S linux-lts

2. modify the Syslinux bootloader to display the LTS option during boot-up

sudo nano /boot/syslinux/syslinux.cfg

... add the following lines

LABEL archlts
	MENU LABEL Arch Linux LTS
	LINUX ../vmlinuz-linux-lts
	APPEND root=/dev/sda1 rw
	INITRD ../initramfs-linux-lts.img

3. reboot and select Arch Linux LTS from boot menu
