[Solved]Missing libraries for ghc

Hi,

I just wanted to get started with haskell and therefore installed - besides various haskell-* packages - the following packages:

ghc
ghc-static
stack
cabal-install

Now when I run

cabal

(the arguments are irrelevant here), I get

cabal: error while loading shared libraries: libHSzip-archive-0.4.1-DHUbJN9iNwobQ5wvFhdHB-ghc8.6.5.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

.

When I want to use

stack

instead, I get

stack: error while loading shared libraries: libHSconduit-1.3.1.1-3gq47figCcD3FXjYab6brY-ghc8.6.5.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

This error messages indicate that there is a problem with the ghc-installation or I am missing a package, but sadly that's all I figured out.

Thanks for your responses

Sounds like a partial update. I'm guessing you ran pacman -Sy before installing those packages? Don't do that, update your system.

Re: [Solved]Missing libraries for ghc

I only checked one lib, but it is provided by a dependency of cabal-install.  Did you install those packages with pacman?

Well it indeed was the (almost) oldest trick in the book. I just had to upgrade my System.

@Scimmia : Just being curious: How did you check that?

Re: [Solved]Missing libraries for ghc

That error is typical for partial updates, the program you are running is looking for a newer version of a dependency than what you have installed (afaik on haskell this is even more relevant than usual since no stable ABI means everything has to always be rebuilt together), read through the paragraph and extending links in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … nsupported
