I have a custom boot hook that requires a usb drive to be available to decrypt the hard drive. This has worked well until recently, after an update to the latest arch kernel. This is the standard kernel, nothing non-standard or self-compiled. I can still boot up no problem with an LTS kernel as I always have.
Has the way the kernel handles hooks or USB access early in the boot process changed? The specific error message I get is:
Device /dev/disk/by-uuid/<redacted> doesn't exist or access denied.
The computer never really boots so there's no logs to review.

What version was the linux package updated from? Does using the fallback initrd back a difference?
Does the system reach a rescue shell where you can check what modules are loaded?
