X1 Carbon 6th Gen BIOS Update Problem

Hi all,

I have a 6th gen X1 Carbon (type 20KH), and I'm attempting to update the BIOS, following the instructions here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Le … 6)#Updates

First I attempted to use fwupdmgr get-updates, but it returns nothing.
Then I attempted a manual install. I downloaded the .cab file from lenovo's website, and run fwupdmgr:

$ fwupdmgr install n23et63w.cab
Decompressing…           [***************************************]
No supported devices found

I believe I'm booting in legacy BIOS mode (and I'm running Grub). Any idea how to diagnose this?

Re: X1 Carbon 6th Gen BIOS Update Problem

According to this fwupd page, legacy mode is not supported.

Re: X1 Carbon 6th Gen BIOS Update Problem

Thanks for the reply, d_fajardo. Is there a way to update the bios from legacy mode? I believe the only way to switch to UEFI mode is to reinstall arch...

Re: X1 Carbon 6th Gen BIOS Update Problem

You can try the old fashioned way of doing i via USB. I found this page that might be of a guide. Just be careful with any BIOS update. I've bricked a motherboard once doing it.
If I were you, I would take the time to switch to UEFI. I personally feel it's the modern setup but that's a personal opinion.
