Installing Arch over ttyUSB0, archiso password?

I'm having to install Arch by using a USB to TTL FTDI cable over ttyUSB0.

I'm confronted by:

archiso login:

I have tried the usual combinations of 'root' and blank etc. Nothing works, and I can't find anything else in the Arch Wiki that helps.

Any ideas?

When last I checked, it was root with a blank password.

Sadly this doesn't work.

And oddly, when I type 'root' for the username, it goes straight to 'Login incorrect' without asking for a password.

What fresh hell is this?

I guess pam_securetty.so kicks in in that setup, try to disable/comment it everywhere in the isos /etc/pam.d/*
