Hello
I'm running 5.2.9-arch1-1-ARCH
I did two things this morning and now I can't login
1.) I removed all unnecessary packages (using the pacman command, I forget what it is)
2.) I did pacman Syyu and it upgraded "kernel stuff" I could tell.
Now when I boot I can't login and see at times the error that logind can't start.
I've tried booting to the LiveCD and running a myriad of things after mounting like mkinitcpio -P, and "-p linux" and pacman -linux and all kinds of stuff but it's not letting the "logind" service start.
I can even ssh to the box but again, I can't login.
If I put in a wrong-password, I get an error. If I put in the correct password, it just hangs
Also I'm running the OS on a USB-stick which has worked wonderfully for the past year until today.
Thank you.

"pacman -Syu", you obviously don't know what the second "y" does (cause you used it here), so you have no reason to use it.

First of all, we need more specific data, eg. your pacman log as well as:
sudo env LC_ALL=C pacman -Qkk | grep -v ", 0 altered files"(after! chrooting into the installed system - if you're root, you can skip "sudo env")
Also I'm running the OS on a USB-stick which has worked wonderfully for the past year until today.
This would make me worry A LOT!
USB keys are "dumb" NAND memory, there's no wear leveling, no reserve blocks, nothing. They are NOT like a (slow) SSD at all.
If you write a lot onto the key, it will eventually loose the ability to write new data (while reading existing data works fine, NAND characteristics) and you might have ended up w/ a bogus partial update…
