Battery Charge Threshold

I was looking around for the best Linux distro for my Asus Zenbook 13 (UX333FN) and came across this Arch Wiki page. I noticed the "Battery charge threshold" not working and was wondering what bad it will do to my system. I've been debating myself to give up Windows 10 WSL completely and install Linux on my laptop. Can you please clear that out to me? Thanks!

Re: Battery Charge Threshold

Hi rkg0612,

coming from ThinkPads a battery threshold can be an upper threshold, i.e. a limit how far the battery should be charged or a lower threshold i.e. at what percentage charging should start.
If you want to use Linux on your laptop, this should not be a deal breaker. It just means that it might not be possible to configure battery thresholds from Linux.

If you have any further questions, feel free to ask smile

Thanks for the informative answer! I have one last question to ask, would that affect my battery life and should I be worrying about it given that in 2 years I'd be upgrading to a newer laptop?

Re: Battery Charge Threshold

Not being able to configure battery thresholds will most likely not affect your battery life. It will most likely just charge to 100% and drain until it goes to 0% or some other low percentage where it will turn off to preserve your data.
If you are going to upgrade to a different laptop in two years anyway, you should not worry about battery life too much as any modern lithium ion battery will work just fine after two years.
