I have tried firefox for Windows. The situation is similar. In the following two shell displays the key thing in common is, perhaps:

My xorg.conf is nominally identical, but the referenced libraries are 64bit. But the initial browser display is OK. The problem, rather, is that it will not open any url's.
So maybe some sort of extra bindings are required. Does 'xhost + localhost' have an adverse effect?

I believe the issue may concern /usr/lib/wine.
Many of the .dll files refer back to there and the links appear to be static, moreover. I believe that, when such calls are made, they are searched for in the arch 64 directories. So, it may be possible to resolve the issues by replicating the 32 bit libraies, there.
Alternatively, it may be possible to build wine for 32 bit arch with dynamic links. I am out of my depth on this one, however.

weird, ie6 worked fine for me. i installed a ton of junk though that i'm not not sure is really neccessary, but oh well. pacman -Sy xorg gnome gnome-extra nvidia ( i have nvidia video card). did you install your video driver? try that ies4linux thing, it's pretty slick.
edit--oh yeah gtk, atk, pango, cairo, etc. try those

I have installed nvidia and the others, but so far no remedy for me. I had ies4linux installed, as well.
It's good it works for you, because it shows that it works in general.
Thanks

ubuntuforums had this:
Common Errors:
fixme:wgl:X11DRV_setup_opengl_visual Failed to find a suitable visual
To fix this error you need to install/update the drivers for your video care to enable openGL. To test if they are enabled type in glxgears in the terminal. If you do not see a window open with 3 rotating gears it confirms you need the drivers.
i'd say boot up to your chroot on it's own and try to fix it then boot back into 64-bit. then you can isolate the issues what kind of video card do you have btw?
did you copy over the .Xauthority from your old home directory to the chroot's home directory?
Offline
Looks like I've got some deep checking through to do.
Both .Xauthority's are empty.
I have now installed mesa-apps and that has resolved the glx issue. glx-gears runs and that error message has gone. For good measure I have updated both the 32 bit and 64 bit installations.
I don't have my nvidia card specs to hand. I used to use nvidia, but it more recently it gave me grief. It runs OK now, however.
So, bit by bit, I am getting it tuned up.
Thanks for the assistance.

good good. i can send my xorg.conf if you need. i just used the nvidia and nvidia-utils from pacman, that seemed to work :-/ let me know what kind of vid card it is.

Courtesy of lshwd, that is: VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corp.|NV18 GeForce4 MX440 AGP 8x (vesa).
I have just enabled composite. Crossing my fingers it doesn't crash the X-Window! This is that part of my xorg.conf.

Weird, but obvious!
[root@myhost /]# /etc/rc.d/network restart
:: Stopping Network [DONE]
:: Starting Network [DONE]
[root@myhost /]# su gs
[gs@myhost /]$ /home/gs/bin/ie6
For me, priming the chrooted network daemon at the start of a session does it all. It seems that both the chrooted network daemon and the host daemon can run at the same time.
I am not saying this is essential for everyone, but it works for me.
Yihaa!!

sweet. are the graphics working too?
Offline
I've tried out tuxracer and the graphics seem better. But certainly, one expects the improvement with games. The vesa driver is probably good enough for office apps. But, as I said, nvidia did fold on me for a while and I think that is because it used to clash with something else I had onboard.
With sites like National Geographic, ie6 does the flash and windows media player stuff OK, but it does play in a jittery fashion. Firefox by chroot lets you get to flash.
So that is a great improvement in available functionality. Thanks again for tipping me off about glxgears and the other assistance. It's been worth the trip, getting here!
