Arch Linux hangs on shutdown.

Hello there.

Recently i installed arch linux and now when i use the

shutdown now

the system won't shutdown, i mean, it hangs and all the PC fans still working.. this thing i solved it in windows disabling the 'fast start option'.

I was using other distro before arch, called peppermint 7, with the same problem, but it was solved making change in the grubs default with

noapic acpi=force reboot=b

and it solve the problem.. but i make the same in arch and doesn't work! it just hangs in shutdown, without ANY error log in the screen.. it just stay in black and the CPU fans are working so i need to shutdown the machine with the button..

Re: Arch Linux hangs on shutdown.

does

sudo shutdown -h now

work?

I possess a device, in my pocket, that is capable of accessing the entirety of information known to man.
I use it to look at funny pictures of cats and to argue with strangers.

No, i tried also

sudo poweroff

and other shutdown options and nothing works.

BTW: I added the

noapic acpi=force reboot=b

and im testing if it works.

Re: Arch Linux hangs on shutdown.

Try adding

reboot-pci acpi=force

kernel parameters to your

/etc/default/grub

and run

 grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

again.

Re: Arch Linux hangs on shutdown.

What is mandatory anyway to avoid inconsistencies in pot. NTFS mounts (w/ the risk of data loss) and undefined HW states (esp. NICs  and BT are prone to show completely random behavior to the degree where the device doesn't respond at all)

"Fast Start" is a lie. Windows just hibernates and you end up running two OS operating the HW concurrenly what causes all sort of trouble regardless of the actual OSes involved.

tl;dr - if deactivating windows fast start solves your issue you have no issue because that is what you should have done from the get-go.

But the issue was solved on windows, not in linux.

Re: Arch Linux hangs on shutdown.

You mean windows hang as well and deactivating fastboot only made windows shutdown properly?

Re: Arch Linux hangs on shutdown.

If even windows cannot hibernate and esp. in combination w/ your proposed solution, I'd say the BIOS has an extraordinarily broken ACPI implementation and would suggest to check whether there's a BIOS update available.
