Hi,
I'm relatively new to Arch and trying to standardize my text navigation shortcuts, so that I can use Alt + Arrowkeys for word movement, Ctrl + Arrowkeys for beginning/end of line movement, and Shift with either of those to select.
I know that shells have their own settings, so I updated my zsh profile to use these. I use Sublime Text a lot, and it tends to manage its own settings, so I did the same there. But I went into System Settings and edited the Standard Shortcuts for Backward Word, Forward Word, Beginning of Line, and End of Line, expecting this to cover most other bases. This also required changing the binding of Back and Forward so as not to collide. Restarted Firefox, no changes.
So it seems these shortcuts are unused by Firefox as well, which uses its own shortcuts but offers no customization (the page recommends an experimental Add-On which doesn't support text navigation). They do work in Dolphin, which is great.
My questions are:
- Does anyone know of a browser for which I can customize text navigation shortcuts?
- How common is it for these settings to be used/ignored? I would so appreciate an explanation of what exactly is going on. I read the section of the Wiki which discusses Xorg keyboard shortcuts but haven't been able to learn much about how and how KDE Standard Shortcuts get saved and used.
- Is there much of a difference between KDE and Gnome in typical shortcut usage?
- Does anyone have experience changing these text navigation shortcuts globally? Is the only approach to go on a per-application basis?
Thank you very much.
Cheers,
cattleman
